This years contest will feature over 50 Barbeque Teams from the U.S. and Canada. Each team will be judged on 4 categories to determine the Grand Champion: Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork and Beef Brisket.
This year will also feature three additional categories: Chef’s Choice, Dessert, and People’s Choice. These categories will be judged separately and will not count towards the Grand Champion.
Prize money, totaling $8500, and trophies will be awarded as follows:

The Eighth Annual “Smoke in the Valley” BBQ Competition May 6th and 7th, 2016 is proud to be sactioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
BBQ competitors are located in the central area of the park. Ample walkways are setup around the competitor’s sites, you are welcome to stroll along these walkways and watch the teams in action.
We do ask that you respect their space. Feel free to ask questions but please do not enter their site without being invited. Competitors do not sell food, nor do they give out samples (this is in accordance with the Montgomery County Public Health Code).
Competitors begin “smoking” on Friday. Judging is Saturday afternoon starting at noon (this is for KCBS certified judges and not open to the public). If you see a competitor walking/running with a food container in their hands, please step aside. There is a time limit for each turn-in.
